Google changed the way it ranks websites
A while ago Google changed the way it ranks websites accessed on mobile devices. This change is significant and could have a major impact on your website’s search ranking.
The new algorithm will be emphasizing a lot on sites turning responsive. Google has officially made it clear that Responsive Design is preferred design pattern for Google bots and sites, and the rest will have to battle a lower ranking on the SERPs very soon.
“We’ve been expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices”.
Your search ranking when accessed on a mobile will be penalized if your website is not mobile friendly. With mobile and tablet “browses” now accounting for over half of internet accesses, this change by Google is not surprising.
So, why is the change important?

It is estimated that over 80% of websites are not mobile friendly, it’s therefore likely that a large number of websites currently with good rankings on mobiles today, could in the future be relegated as the changes are introduced.
The first step, is to evaluate your website using the new test tool. If your website is found to be “Not mobile friendly” then we advise you to take action. The preferred solution is to move your website to a modern mobile responsive platform serving all types of access. An alternative, but less satisfactory option is to build a separate mobile website, although the initial cost may be lower, the ongoing costs of maintenance and SEO over time on two websites will negate any savings.
Check your website
Google have provided a simple to use tool which allows you to test your website and confirm whether your page is mobile friendly along with some useful FAQ’s.
It will tell you whether your page is mobile friendly or if it isn’t.
So in summary..
